This is an interesting and unusual case where a school bus driver was charged with reckless driving.
Obviously it was a serious accident, but the circumstances are unusual.
This quote suggests that there was a history of questionable driving that was a factor in the driver getting a criminal charge:
One woman who lives nearby says she hasn’t allowed her children to ride that bus since last year after hearing horror stories from her children about the driver’s skills.
“It’s a regular basis. We watch her fly up and down this road. We’ve had complaints from other parents. I’ve complained. The kids are scared to death and it doesn’t change,” said Joanie Gazzo.
Gazzo says she placed two complaints with Botetourt County Schools in the past to no avail.
Most of the time, you would expect if a bus driver is temporarily distracted by unruly kids on the bus and has an accident, it’s just an unfortunate incident. But if it was a clear pattern of erratic and aggressive driving that lead to the accident, then everyone is better off with a new driver on the route.
